SAA-SC’s Poster Presentation in Chicago

Recently we had a chance to showcase our IU SAA-SC conference for graduate students and beginning professionals that we’ve held here in Bloomington in 2008, 2010 and 2011. At the Society of American Archivists 75th Annual Meeting in Chicago, we presented our chapter’s poster, titled, “Rounding Out the Academic Experience: SAA Indiana University Student Chapter’s Graduate Conference.”

The poster highlighted the importance of professional development opportunities in the library school curriculum and analyzed the growth of our conference through the years. We’re proud of the all-around growth but are especially happy with the number of papers presented – 6 in 2008, 13 in 2010 and 15 in 2011 – and the number of attendees – 29 in 2008, 36 in 2010 and 55 in 2011. And in 2011, attendees came from 13 different institutions, some as far away as New York City, Texas and Washington state!

Our poster also featured the diverse research and project interests through a visual representation of presentation categories, and displayed photographs of attendees in sessions, workshops and tours.

The best part of the poster presentation session was receiving feedback and advice from professionals in SAA and connecting with other student members of the organization. It was inspiring to see the range of work and research our fellow student archivists are conducting, and we hope to see you all again soon – maybe even at our March 2012 conference!

The Society of American Archivists Indiana University Student Chapter seeks to: *provide a forum to address issues in the archival profession in an informal and relaxed atmosphere. *facilitate a meeting place for students with interests in Archives, Special Collections, Manuscripts, or Personal Papers. *raise awareness about archives and their importance in the university and surrounding community.
