SAA-IUB puts on a Wikipedia-Edit-a-thon

On February 22, a small group gathered for a Wikipedia-Edit-a-thon. We started off with a presentation by Chanitra Bishop, the Instruction & Emerging Technologies Librarian here at IU. Chanitra talked to us about Wikipedia culture, page editing, and why libraries and archives should take the time to contribute to Wikipedia.saa_wikiEdit_20140222_02

Since February is Black History Month, we took the opportunity to edit and create pages about African-American alumni and organizations. Our faculty advisor, Dina, had pulled reference and clipping files for us in advance.

Here the pages we worked on:saa_wikiEdit_20140222_01

Two of our attendees were experienced wikipedians and worked on their own special projects:

Vladislav Krasnov

All in all, it was a productive and informative day – I think we all learned something new. Thanks to everyone who came to our event!
